Chemicals used →
Three main types of chemotherapeutic agents are used:
- Cytotoxic agents: These interfere with the mitotic process of cancer cells, preventing them from dividing and proliferating.
- Antimetabolites: These disrupt the metabolic pathways within cancer cells, inhibiting their ability to grow and replicate.
- Immunomodulators: These enhance the body’s immune response against tumor cells, increasing the natural resistance of the body to the cancer.
- Intravenous (IV)
- Intra-arterial (IA)
- Oral (tablet form)
- Intramuscular (IM)
- Subcutaneous (SC)
